Three Useful Tips to Increase the Back-up of Your Inverter Battery

Battery is the backbone of an inverter. It is responsible for the good performance and long life of the inverter. In a country like India where electric outage is still a problem in many villages/cities, the need of inverter becomes essential. It keeps supplying electric current to electrical and electronic devices and keep them running during power cut. However just like other appliances the inverter too needs regular maintenance for effective operation and longer back-up life. Here are three useful ways to increase the back-up of inverter battery:

Use of energy saving devices

It is the most efficient way to increase the battery backup. Energy saving devices help in saving the power consumption up to 75%. Use of LED or CFL bulbs instead of ordinary bulbs not only saves the energy but also money. Similarly the old fans with poor quality copper winding will consume lot of power as compared to latest energy saving fans.

Disconnect the appliances when not in use

Very often we use TV, fan, bulb or any other home appliances but forget to switch off. When there is an electricity cut, all appliances automatically switched over inverter power thus consuming energy and decreasing the backup of the battery. Therefore whenever you are on inverter make sure to disconnect the appliances and electronic gadgets if not in use. Taking it in the habit will definitely improve the performance and life of the battery.

Regular maintenance of the battery

Every gadget and appliance need care and maintenance. Proper care keeps the life of the inverter longer and makes the most out of it. You can keep the battery terminals corrosion free and rust free. Since rusting and corrosion are bad for battery performance therefore proper cleaning will ensure regular flow of current and charging of the battery. The corrosive terminals can be cleaned with hot water+baking soda solution. Excessive charging can also damage the life of inverter battery so make sure to check and switch off the inverter once the battery is fully charged. Additionally, once in a month try to discharge the battery completely and then recharge it. It will help in increasing the life of the battery. Check the water level of the battery every two months. Ensure that the water level is maintained between the maximum and minimum water limit. Always top up the battery with distilled water. Do not use tap water or rain water as it contains excess minerals and impurities that can harm the battery. However, if the battery is fully dead, it's time to buy a new one with good rating and warranty.
