Are you a budding design talent looking for acclaim? Here’s good news for you: the Singapore Furniture Industries Council (SFIC) recently declared the 2016 edition of the Furniture Design Awards(FDA) open for submissions.

To encourage the participation of the younger generation, this upcoming edition of the FDA will have no restrictions on age and qualifications. The competition is open to designers from all over the world with the chance to win the attractive prize money of S$20,000 — a two-fold increase from the previous FDA.

The competition, which has been conducted yearly since 1993 will only have a single “Designers” category in its 2016 edition, to encourage applicants to exercise their creativity and test their aptitude for innovation.

The winning entries will be displayed at annual design festival SingaPlural 2016, which is held in conjunction with the International Furniture Fair Singapore 2016, the 33rd ASEAN Furniture Show (IFFS/AFS 2016), The Décor Show, and Hospitality 360˚.

Prominent industry designers and personalities will judge the entries based on four main criteria — degree of innovation, marketability, functionality and environmental awareness. The closing date for all submissions is 10 August 2015.

“We hope to nurture design talents… and provide these budding young designers with opportunities to kickstart their career in furniture design,” said Mr Mark Yong, Vice President of SFIC and Chairman of Design Development.
